25 Days of Joy Challenge: Day 9

The holiday season in New York is a really special time. There seems to be an endless number of events and soirees connecting people and sharing ideas. It’s a very large, diverse city and I love being able to take advantage of it.

This evening I went to one such event at the New-York Historical Society. I was excited to see the Annie Leibovitz: Pilgrimage exhibition they had up.

Annie Leibovitz’s journey lead her across so many strong women from across American history. Elanor Roosevelt, Georgia O’Keefe, Emily Dickinson, Martha Graham, Annie Oakley, Virginia Wolff, Vanessa Bell, Louisa May Alcott – there were at least as many women featured in Pilgrimage as there were men if not more.

It was really refreshing and inspiring to see mementos of these women’s lives featured in this setting. I kept thinking how it would have been cool to see it as a kid – as a child to think of myself among this class of American women who left their mark on the world.

What a wonderful way to spend an evening. Cultivation of joy – check. The evening was a delight!
